That my friends is tablature or tabs. This is what you start out playing ( btw dont try this song until you have played guitar for a while, took me to years...) Tabs are very important because you can learn tons of songs while also learning important chords. The key is practice, as my little sister says: perfect practice makes perfect, PRACTICE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Try learning something like " summer of 69 by bryan adams.

Now that you have the equipment, which guitar are you going to buy?

Yes I know, your probaly thinking "when is this dude going to shut up about equipment?" I am stressing the equipment because imagine going to say a Nascar race with a Ford Pinto... You are not going to win, you will fail epicly. It's the same concept with guitars, you can't go on stage with an junker (being nice) guitar, you need one with beefy pickups, and a comfotable neck. Believe it or not, but my guitar i paid $180 for, and it's worth more than a $1000 dollar les paul. Good stuff is needed, but if you are starting out as a beginner you WILL NOT need anything that beefy, you just need a standard guitar. Try going into The Fret Store or Guitar Center and ask for a beginner guitar. Also, I need to stress about pickups. You beginners are asking probaly " what in the world are these pickups he is talking about?" Don't worry I had no idea either back then. Pickups are underneath the string and genarally a guitar will have three. Now there are several different types of pickups for example: single coil pickups ( which are almost always on beginner guitars and are ok for using, but if your going pro, UNDER NO CURCUMSTANCES USE THESE, unless you are a beginner.) Also there's the active pickups ( they are ok, but be warned they are battery powered and go dead very fast so be warned.) Finally, theres the double coil, or humbuckers, (which is what is in my guitar and most pro guitars.) And these are basically the best pickups you can use. So now that you know about pickups, what about picks (what you hold in you're hand to play with)? There are also multiple (hundreds) of types, but to save you some time I'll just explain the 2 basic picks needed. Now this is different for everyone, so you don't have to use these tips, but generally when playing really fast or slow stuff on like one or two strings you will only need a .50 millimeter pick. On the other hand, if you're playing something like sweet child o' mine by guns n' roses, you will need a 1.0 millimeter pick, (the heavier the pick the slower you can move you're hand, and the chunkier the sound gets). I hope this has helped explain some stuff, and remember there will be more posts soon so stay tuned!

P.S.: And yes next post will be about music reading etc.

So, you wanna be a guitarist? Do you have the equipment?

You can't play guitar without the equipment! So what all do you need? It all depends on what kind of music you wanna play. Say you wanna play Rock N' Roll like me, you'll need a guitar with Double Humbucker Pickups, or if you wanna play gospel you just need a standard guitar. Since you're probaly a beginner you are going to need a basic guitar like a Behringer, or an basic Luna. Secondly you'll need a practice amp, make sure it has a GAIN (distortion) switch or slider etc. You will also need a PATCH CORD ( also known as the fat cord connecting your guitar to the amp). You will also need a TUNER. You can get an Electric Tuner ( I have one and they are very useful for tuning before a show or something) or a PITCH FORK, or you can TUNE BY EAR, which is pretty hard to do. Finally you will need a PICK. Now you can USE a STRAIGHT PICK ( Which is what I use and prefer) or a THUMB PICK. Oh yea you will also need a TEACHER or TAB BOOK. So this is the list of things you will need for starting out.

more articles coming later so stay tuned!
